The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever

The latest import from New York is The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever by Joe Marshall. The show has been a big hit for several seasons in New York and is liable to become a regular feature of Christmas here in the Southland.

Paul Storiale has staged the cast of eighteen on the very small stage of the Avery Schreiber Theatre in NOHO. It is to his credit that he is able to produce movement and stage pictures in such a small space. But he has experience having directed another gay Christmas play Twist, the successful One Night Stands. And his award-winning docudrama, The Columbine project.

The cast is wildly uneven and left this reviewer wondering what a more experienced cast might have brought to the production. Satire, especially theatrical and/or gay, is difficult to pull off. Yet the cast brings their all to the show and throw themselves into the crazy and hilarious antics of this plot. The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever will hold forth their merry (or should I say Mary) doings until Dec 30th.
