Crack Whore Galore

Imagine Sid and Nancy if they ever tried to fly straight. Meet Danny and Abbey Galore—a high-voltage cocktail of punk rock and sex minus the drugs.

This world premiere production created by Tonya Cornelisse, Ryan Oliver, Danny Roew, Graham Sibley and Gates McFadden is rude, crude and a totally funny late-night offering. Social misfits, Danny and Abbey (Sibley and Cornelisse) don’t give a f--k about anything that isn’t pure punk, taking time out to do a little f—ing between sets backstage and hawking their amateur porn to benefit their drug rehab center. Who says punks don’t have heart?

Probably their opening act Jackie Tohn, whose lovely acoustic ballads are interrupted by the clamor of Danny and Abbey barging in with a grocery cart filled with mannequin body parts. These insensitive A-hole’s don’t give a f—k about Tohn’s Julee Cruise ala Frente meets Taylor Swift bleeding heart styling’s. They bang around, setting up shop as Tohn attempts to finish her set, ducking plastic limbs and torsos akimbo. What a way to make an entrance punk rock style!

It may be too late for Crack Whore Galore to make a good first impression, but they don’t care. They’re so deep into each other and their discordant beats that they immediately crank out a crowd pleasing “Fucktown,” a dirty little ditty that involves all forms of sex and bodily fluids. Gulping down a liter of Mountain Dew, Danny belts out love songs like “Do Me on a Regular Basis” while Abbey bangs on her drums. The pair gets hot for each other and their own brand of music more than they sing, but it’s a tough call as to what’s more entertaining.

Convinced that their backstage tryst has impregnated her, Abbey works the crowd for donations. Danny waxes nostalgic over how they met, admitting they used to be “crack whores.” Their love story follows the typical recipe of courtship; zombie dayplayers on a low-budget film, porn, drugs then rehab and of course, their music—the duct tape that binds them together.

Other colorful tunes include “Bangers n’ Mash” and some rifts from Green Day’s “American Idiot.” But the music is just an amusing anecdote compared to these two who are a hilarious train wreck. The show never falls off the rails from the zany, kooky and uncouth hijinks. A raucous hour-long romp, it keeps the audience laughing for more. Were it any longer, and the superficiality might wear as thin as Abbey’s torn fishnet stockings.

“Crack Whore Galore” closes with us wanting more, not less from this unsavory pair. CD’s are available for purchase after the show and I highly recommend snagging a couple. They may never go platinum, but they’re pure punk rock gold.
