A Nice Family Christmas

Playwright Phil Olson has written 14 plays that have had over 350 productions around the world.  He is a master comedy writer, and his latest play, A Nice Family Christmas, is having its world premiere at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood.

The play takes place in Minnesota on Christmas Eve, a time for a family get-together at Mom’s home (Belinda Howell).  Son Carl (Greg D. Barnett), a newspaper reporter, has been given an assignment to write a story about a typical family Christmas.  Arriving at the home of his recently widowed mother and his off-the-wall grandmother (Marcia Rodd), gives him the opportunity to write about his own family.

Brother Michael (Patrick Burke), who is a doctor, arrives with his wife Jill (Rebekah Dunn).  Jill is desperate to have a baby and their marriage appears a bit shaky.  Sister Stacey (Truett Jean Butler) admits that she is gay and is exclusively happy with her partner, while Uncle Bob (Fox Carney) shows up, perhaps a bit tipsy, and attempts to get too cozy with Mom.

When this dysfunctional family gets together, who knows what their conversations reveal  as they battle it all out in a nice family gathering loaded with a laugh-a-minute.  And just maybe it is all too personal to be printed in a newspaper!

Doug Engalla directs a wonderful talented cast whose portrayals of these characters are marvelous.  Marcia Rodd proves to be a real comedienne!

A Nice Family Christmas plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 2 PM, through December 18.  Tickets are available online at www.thegrouprep.com, or by phone at (818) 763-5990.  The theatre is located at 10900 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood.  Get a head start on the Christmas Season.  Go see A Nice Family Christmas at the Lonny Chapman Theatre located at 10900 Burbank Blvd., in North Hollywood.
