A Christmas West Side Story

If you enjoy the Troubies (Troubadour Theater Company), and who doesn't?, you will love their latest, A Christmas West Side Story, playing at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank. Those who know their work know the talent and humor that they bring to the stage with their slapstick comedy, musical talent, acting, and acrobatic prowess. Through the choreography of Molly Alvarez (ala West Side Story), they proved what good dancers they are as well.

Artistic Director Matt Walker who also directs this production, performs the lead role as Ralphie. Ralphie longs for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, but Mom (Leah Sprecher) and Old Man (Rick Batalia) tell him it is a dangerous toy and it will "shoot your eye out." As the plot spoofs West Side Story with exceptionally humorous action, familiar songs from the musical are parodied. There is even a very funny scene of "the rumble" when Farkus (Brandon Breault) and Toady (Christine Lakin) attack Ralphie.

The Troubies have been bringing brilliant comedy during the Christmas Season to the Falcon Theatre every year since 2002. I think A Christmas West Side Story is the funniest and best. Except for one scene in Act I when the family is having breakfast, every moment of the show is witty and hilarious.

Other cast members include Kristin D'Andrea Condon, Joseph Keane, Beth Kennedy, Katherine Malak, Suzanne Jolie Narbonne, Robert Petrarca, Monica Schneider, and Lisa Valenzuala.

A Christmas West Side Story plays Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 4 PM and 8 PM, and Sundays at 4 PM and 7 PM, through January 15, 2012. There will be no shows December 24, 25, 31, and January 1. Show times vary each week so check the website (www.FalconTheatre.com) or call the Box Office (818-955-8101) for information and tickets.
