Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In

Paris

If you enjoy the music of Jacques Brel, you will definitely enjoy this resurrected musical, the fifth and final production of the Colony Theatre Company’s 35th anniversary. And if you are not that familiar with Brel’s music, the four voices performing his work are a plus, as are the five musicians who accompany them.

Brel’s music is not the easiest to sing, but there is no denying he was a brilliant composer, and the members of this production portray the brilliance of his timeless songs. There are songs of love, songs that reflect death, songs of lament, but above all, songs that will keep you entertained by the lovely Eileen Barnett, the spirited performance of Gregory Franklin, the sumptuous voice of Jennifer Shelton and the double talent of Zachary Ford (who also does some accompaniment on the accordion). The musicians include Brent Crayon (piano), Chris Mello (guitar), Jeff Novack (bass), Oliver Steinberg (bass) and Emiliano Almeida (drums). The English lyrics and additional material are by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman. Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living In Paris is under the direction of Jon Lawrence Rivera, musical direction by Brent Crayon.

Though Jacques Brel, in truth, is not living (April 8, 1929 – October 9, 1978), this cast certainly brings him and his music back to life. The production will continue through May 9, 2010.
