In Santa Monica Playhouse's ongoing benefit series, their recent production was an unusual creation of three one-woman shows. The first, Surviving Chrysalis, was written, and is performed by Barbara Cole, under the direction of Amy Mayer Cole wrote her first one-woman show about becoming a new mother in 1995. Despite its success, Cole put her acting career on the back burner after becoming a mother. But ten years later, she returned to her profession with Surviving Chrysalis that won "Best of Fest" at the San Diego Actors Festival. This very talented lady is reprising the show about the turbulence of mid-life.
The story of Lizzie, Crazy In A Good Way, was written by Lizzie Czerner and directed by David Coe. Lizzie, unfortunately is a 40-year old romantic who finds her first love, but it is questionable whether the feeling is mutual. This very funny play is performed by the artistic playwright herself. Czerner is a seasoned actress with credits in film, stage and voice-over work.
The Hard Way, the final offering is a musical adventure written and performed byDinah Steward and directed by Martin Papzaian. Steward was an active-duty member of the United States Air Force prior to pursuing a career in singing and songwriting.
After a an unknown mix-up in reservations and a late start at the opening of Up Chick Creek, the production made up for the long wait for an evening of enjoyable entertainment.
