The Award-winning show Louis and Keely Live at the Sahara featuring Jake Broder as Louis Prima and Vanessa Claire Smith as Keely Smith continued to draw crowds when it began at the Sacred Fools Theatre followed by a run at the Matrix Theatre and finally expanded to a larger production at the Geffen Playhouse. Now the two extremely talented performers are again thrilling audiences with their latest “gig,” a real nightclub act featuring Broder, Smith and a superb jazz band, entitled A Vegas Holiday! songs from Live At the Sahara playing at the El Portal in North Hollywood.
Though Broder doesn’t resemble Prima, his style and energy is enough to turn him into Prima on stage. Smith is not just a Keely look-alike, but she has her voice and mannerisms down to perfection. The show also features Luca Elllis as Frank Sinatra. The 7-piece band includes Paul Litteral (trumpet), Richard Levinson (piano), Nate Light (bass), Michael Solomon (drums), Brian Wallis (trombone), Colin Kupka (sax) and Dan Sawyer (guitar, sax, clarinet, flute, and piccolo…).
Live at the Sahara will play Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. (No shows Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1). Special New Years Eve Times, 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.; New Year’s Eve 4 p.m. will include a Dessert Reception celebrating the New Year.
